TIPS TO HELP YOU FIND THE IDEAL SIZE HOME

Without a doubt, buying a new home is exciting. With this exciting time, however, comes a few things you need to consider seriously to be sure you choose the right home for your family’s needs. One of these considerations is the size of the home you’ll be buying. Use the tips below to help you choose a home that’s just the right size.

1. BIGGER ISN’T ALWAYS BETTER

You may think that as long as a home is big enough to live in, it doesn’t matter how large it really is. However, a home that’s too large for your family’s needs could be costing you more in maintenance and upkeep. If there are rooms you won’t use on the regular, consider looking for a smaller home with enough space to be comfortable but not too much that you don’t use it all regularly.

2. HOW MUCH CAN YOU AFFORD FOR MAINTENANCE?

A bigger home requires more time and money for maintenance. How much can you realistically afford on maintenance costs like mowing a large yard or paying high energy bills? Then there’s the cleaning that a larger home will require. Are you up for that challenge? Talk with your family and your real estate agent to decide just how your budget plays into this crucial decision.

3. HOW MANY ROOMS DO YOU NEED?

If you aren’t sure just how large a home you’ll need, start by counting the rooms your family needs to be comfortable. Take into consideration if you have overnight guests on the regular, if you plan to expand your family, or if you’ll have an aging family member living with you in the future. Don’t forget to count rooms like the kitchen and bathrooms, too, to get an accurate picture of the size of home you’ll need.

4. LOOK AT SEVERAL HOMES

Once you figured out the size home you’ll need, spend some time touring different homes in the size range. This will give you an idea of just how your life and things will fit into the size home you’ve determined will work for your family’s needs.

It might seem intimidating at first trying to find the perfect size home for your family. Break down your options by budget and need to figure out how much space you’ll need and what you can afford and then head out to see the different homes that fit those requirements.
